EUGENE— Join the City Club of Eugene on Friday, May 16, 2008 at 11:50a.m. for lunch with Henry Fogel, President and CEO of the League of American Orchestras, at the Hilton Eugene. The presentation is part of the City Club’s weekly Friday luncheons featuring guest speakers and enticing topics.
Fogel will share his thoughts on the state of classical music in America and what orchestras and other arts organizations are doing to build greater connections to their respective communities. Fogel will also discuss the Eugene Symphony’s current music director search process and its impact on the symphonic music industry.
“Presenting a lunch with Mr. Fogel gives City Club members the rare opportunity to have a conversation with a national figure in the arts,” said Pat Skipper, president of the City Club of Eugene.
Fogel is one of the best-known and most influential orchestra administrators in the U.S. Currently serving as president and CEO of the League of American Orchestras, Fogel is the former chief executive at the Chicago Symphony Orchestra and previously served as executive director of the National Symphony Orchestra in Washington, D.C. (1981-85) and was orchestra manager of the New York Philharmonic (1978-81).
You can tune into “Collector’s Corner” on KWAX (91.1 fm) every Tuesday at 8 p.m. to hear selections from Fogel’s colossal collection of historical classical recordings. You can also read Fogel’s blog, “On the Record: Exploring America’s Orchestras with Henry Fogel,” which includes a posting about the Eugene Symphony at: www.artsjournal.com/ontherecord.
