Truffaut is known as one of the founders of the French New Wave in filmmaking. He was screenwriter, director, producer or actor in over twenty-five films. His films such as, Shoot the Piano Player (1960), Jules and Jim (1962), Day for Night (1973) are classics of the New Wave.
