EUGENE SYMPHONY CONCLUDES SEASON WITH FREE SPECIAL EVENTS AND RARE PROGRAM

EUGENE— Join the Symphony for a season finale performance on Thursday, May 15, 2008 at 8 p.m. at the Hult Center for the Performing Arts. The concert repertoire includes{
Buxtehude/arr. Chavez
Chaconne in E Minor

J.S. Bach Suite No. 2 in B Minor

Bruckner Symphony No. 7 in E Major

Featuring two masterworks of the Baroque period, the program opens with Carlos Chavez’s symphonic arrangement of Buxtehude’s Chaconne in E Minor, followed by J.S. Bach’s entertainingly vibrant Suite No. 2 in B Minor featuring the Eugene Symphony’s principal flutist, Kristen Halay. Bruckner’s lyrical, popular and beloved Symphony No. 7 brings a fantastic close to the Eugene Symphony’s 2007-2008 season.

Open to the public. The class will feature three high school and college students from Eugene and Salem, coached by Eugene Symphony principal flute, Kristen Halay.

  • GUILD CONCERT PREVIEW—Free—Wednesday, May 14, noon in The Studio (lower level of the Hult Center).

Please join conductor Giancarlo Guerrero for a free lecture highlighting the repertoire and composers featured at the May 15 concert.

  • HENRY FOGEL TO SPEAK—$3—Friday, May 16, 11:50 a.m. at The Hilton Eugene.

Join the City Club of Eugene on Friday, May 16, 2008 at 11:50a.m. for lunch with guest speaker Henry Fogel, President and CEO of the League of American Orchestras, at the Hilton Eugene. Fogel will share his thoughts on the state of classical music in America and what orchestras and other arts organizations are doing to build greater connections to their respective communities. Fogel will also discuss the Eugene Symphony’s current music director search process and its impact on the symphonic music industry.
